I am going to change my oil. The temparture runs anywhere from 60 to 100 degrees here. So what would be the best weight of oil to use. Thanks

Default Oil!!!

I run 10w40 so far year round. I run it on the frozen lakes in wisconsin and in the trails in the summer. Do a search for oil choices on this bord. there have been several good post reguarding type and brand of oil. With 10-w40 you are pretty safe. The manual says use a 10w40 api something or other approved oil. Its in a recent oil post somewhere. Just stay away from any that say "energy conserving" on the API label, there bad for the clutch. Most 10w-40 oils are non energy conserving.

A lot of guys on the KLR650 board say to run either castrol gtx 10w-40 (dino oil) or Mobile 1 15w-50 (synthetic oil).

Id say pick a 10w 40 you are comfterble with thats non energy conserving that mets the API requirements of the owners manual and youl be fine.

I just switched to the castrol GTX 10w-40. Its fair priced, easy to find almost everywhere, and metes the API requirements.

Dave.

I have been using Castrol GTX 10w-40 for 3 years with no complaints!
