Would the ds650 have any chance against the old suzuki quadzilla?

Don't think you know what you are talking about. I have an 1988 LT500 that had to have a new top end two years ago, other than that I have had no problems while my friend's DS has been in the shop 3 times since he bought it. The DS is a good bike but my LT runs circles around him. Just my 2 cents for what its worth.

The last time I was @ Dumont I mopped an alky 500+ Quadzilla w/ drag pipe and all the bells and whistles... But they have potential if ya got deep pockets.

Move this thread to the Suzuki forum and you'll get completely different responses. While it is true that a poorly built zilla is a time bomb, in stock or properly modded form they are very fast and reliable.

A properly built zilla is relatively reliable, it is still a high performance two stroke and all two strokes require regular maintenance. I have never rode a stock zilla and I have never rode a stock DS, with that being said it would take one hell of a DS to beat my zilla. A 720 simply won’t be able to get it done, some of the bigger ones maybe.

But the bottom line is they are both great quads, if I had my way I’d own one of each. Each individual likes different things, some like the ability to put gas in and go while others prefer to do a little wrenching inbetween.

Wow, that's an awful bold statement considering there are some fast DSs in your part of the world. So your Zilla is far from stock..??

I have a friend who has a stock zilla save for the pipe and air filter. It has been rebuilt a few times since it was new, he is the second owner. In a drag race, he beat my piped raptor by about 5 lengths. I have another friend who I race against at sand drags. His zilla is built up, not sure whats done to it though. He runs consistant 5's on 300'. the fastest banshees running 900cc sled motors are running about 4.1 at this track. I averaged about 6.2 with my piped raptor. His zilla has been rebuilt about 9 times counting the engine work, and he is the original owner. They both claim their bikes are very reliable considering their age and the fact that they are the most powerful production atv anyone can remember.

Of course, I did have yet another friend, this time an Ice Racing buddy, who put a zilla engine in his lt250. He had a lot of problems with it, and with the liquid coolling. Of course, much of this could be contributed to a questionable build.

You can take all the "shootouts" and put them in one bucket and you won't have beans.

My son and I built a Trinity stage 3 LT500 w/NOS several years ago. Bare frame to running bike, we used all the bells and whistles. That bike was a handful to ride but very fast up the hill. It took a lot of concentration and a strong leg to get it started and we were fixing it more than riding it....I'll take my TVI DS 720 anytime.
