thats cool, what did the whole setup cost you? i know porting is 150, and carb is 550....
i still havnt decided if im going to do the carb yet or not... (i will prolly decide once i get back from sahara...)
550 is a big chunk of change for a 17 year old w/o a job...
plus most minimum wage jobs dont buy too many parts like that!

hey bus, i checked out your pics, nice buggy! looks like massive susp. travel.
is that your dodge Dak in the pics?
i have a 96 ram right now, that is only getting me 11 mpg HIGHWAY! and am looking into a new dakota....is yours the v6 or v8? just curious as to what your mileage was... (also if v8, is it 4.7/5.2/or RT 5.9?)

Busmechanic, thats a nifty looking mini rail. Was it a kit or did you dream it up? I've seen a few like it but haven't seen one go. How much travel does it have. Where do you ride?

I purchased the porting work from Mr. HP & performed the basic setup that he recomended to go along with it. I believe I got very close to the 4 HP he showed on the dyno. 4 HP isn't a night & day difference, it is however enough to allow you to blip the throttle to bring the front tires up over a bump or whatever, you notice it has a much better pick up of RPMs, it will lunge forward when you blip the throttle. It just added a little more power everywhere. What I opted to do was get the porting done & try that out. Next, I ordered the billet throttle which is on it's way and last I'm going to order the Lectron. (The billet throttle will sit on the shelf until I get the Lectron - I am NOT installing it on the stock carb.) So in early April right around my birthday I'll be getting my hands on the Lectron & I've spread out all of the costs so that I didn't have to shell out the big bucks at any one time.
I'm also going to Dumont Sand Dunes to get in one last testing run to see how my Baja does on the hill by measuring speed up the hill then guesstimating RPM that I achieved on the ascent. (It's kind of difficult to get an accurate RPM reading when racing up the hill watching the needle bounce.) Once I get the Lectron I'll be back at Dumont that first weekend to run the same tests & see how much improvement I got using my methods.

I ride mainly in florence. but the buggy has only been to sandlake once for test running. I hope to get it ready to take to florence soon.
what about that superquad [cbr]? man, that thing looks like it will rip. is that yours? your other pics do not show up.

I have sand stars on douglas .160's and won't run them again. They were taco'd several times on my two trips to the dunes. They are now ruined from being beaten back straight. Keep in mind that I am almost 300 pounds and the rear shock was stock and I did jump more that 3-7 feet. I don't think I would have had the same problems if I had my new rear shock on. I have also ruined my stock reinforced rims. I just weigh too much to be doing this.

hmm... im 225....
how big were the jumps you were doing when they bent? (the jumps i do are 3-7 ish feet up, but i travel a long way with them...
were you jumping from really high? i just dont want to spend 200 some bucks to go bend rims.... !

When I bent them in the sand the first trip I was jumping 60-65 feet and about six feet in the air. I was hitting the jumps in fourth gear at about 7000 rpm. The second time I bent them I was doing 80-85 foot jumps fourth gear pinned. I was only about 7 feet in the air. Whenever I bent them was when I came down on one wheel. I never bent them when I landed like I was supposed too. On dirt the problem I have is that the stock shocks would bottom and then bend the rims.
