what was the first year they made a DS?what problems did they have?how much would one in good condition run me?do they ride trails good?how do they do on short but steep hills?

 

oh yeah are the more modifiable than me 300ex and how mch are parts?

 

the first year was 00 I believe, which is what I have, no major problems yet. There are WAY more parts to modify a ds, but they will be more expensive. The thing to remember is speed costs money and the ds will make as much power as your wallet can stand. You should ride a stocker first then see how many mods you think you may need.

 

cool so how much should a 00 in good shape cost me,how good is it for trails and short but steep hills also how hard is it tp push around and stuff ?

 

How big are you and what are the trails you ride on. If the trails are heavily rutted then remember a DS is bigger and if all the ruts are from 300EX and utes then the DS is going to track outside of the ruts making it more difficult to push around if your like me and less than 200lbs. Only problems I have heard that are common with the earlier models are chain rollers which is an easy cheap fix and the fans not working, other than that very very reliable motor and everything else.

 

bought mine for $2700 a few months ago. i did have to change out the chain roller, the previous owner was just running it with the roller destroyed? some people don't believe in maintenance. i've had no problems but haven't done any mods yet. plan on changing out the exhaust, cdi, cams and maybe a piston. the only problem i have is i stay stuck, don't try to follow the big 4x4 quads.

 

i would like to have a ds but i am too small for one after doing research,i am 5'8 122lb and the trails i ride are rutted prtty bad but not alot of mud so thanks for the help anyways.
