Default 2004 DS650 Swingarm extension

Hello Everyone,
Just recently purchased a 2004 DS650 Baja X broke it in for 30 miles. Now I have modified it with a White Brothers E series pipe, K & N filter and jetted it. Now it's ***** *** fast, problem is when I gun the gas the front end comes up, not cool . What I wanted to know is if anyone out there owning a DS650 has put an extented swingarm on there bike to keep the front end down. Would appreciate any comments or advice.

Thanks

BigRed what do you weigh? Have you tried adjusting the rear shock a bit to see if that helps? I know there are others on this board with 04's running more mods than yourself and still using the stock 04 swingarm. Most people using extended swingarms are running Big Bore's or Stage III machines.

Congrats on your purchase. Post us some pics.

Hi i havent got mine broke in yet but i have already notided it likes to lift the front when climbing dunes which is a bit disapointing after hearing how stable these machines are supposed to be, im off to the dunes tommorow and im trying out with stock tyres instead of my sand stars.

I thought it might just be me using to little revs because im still breaking it in ie using the tourqe as oposed to the hp

I would also be interested to hear any other opinions especialy from some one who has ridden both an 04 and an older model

what type of adjustment would you recomend i weigh about 195 pounds, i was thinking of running a little more sag than recomended in the manual to take the front ride hight down a bit

DSEngineer,
Thanks for the reply, do you really think decreasing the air out of the back shock will help? I'm willing to try. I was amazed by the performance increase with these mods I am definitely happy, just a little intimidated by my front end coming up.

It isnt air thats in the resovoir its nitrogen dont let it out it works like an accumulator,

i think he means just adjusting the the pre load or damping properties of the shock
but im not sure which would be the best way to go.

how much of a power increase did u get from your mods (%) and in what part of the rev range?

I have a mr hp end cap on order but nothing for the filter yet

BigRed,
I was asking your weight to see if you might need to increase your preload on your rear shock. But at 195lbs probably not.

I know Bartlett is running Alky with the stock 04' swingarm and he said he doesn't really have any problems keeping the font end down. Maybe he has a secret he can share.

Blue250r,

Thanks for the warning I'll try the pre-load. As far as performance percentage not sure how to break that down but can say it was a night and day difference. Still would like to talk to someone with an extended swingarm. Thanks

No problem

i hope i get a comparable increase with this end cap, i will look into a filter next,

one more thought, i run a set of moto cross bars on my 250r which make you sit a lot further forward and gets your shoulders down over the front i was thinking of trying this on the ds if i keep getting the problem, it would be a lot cheaper than a swing arm, And the position gets to feel natural real quick.
