the howstuffworks website is very good.
Basicly on a 4 stroke, the cam and valves control the air coming in and out. On a 2 stroke the piston, covers and uncovers ports, which controls the air coming in and out.

One guy was saying something like that, and now we wonder, how does the crank oil not escape out of thr "exhaust hole" you speak of?
