It is very easy to do. All you have to do is remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the carb bowl and the main jet is the center jet that hangs down the farthest with a collar around it. It will say 165 on it if it is stock. Just list your mods on here along with your elevation and i'm sure we can help you out with what jet size will work for you. Also you might want to go to your local hardware store and pickup some new screws for the carb bowl. Most people switch to stainless steel allen head screws. The sizes and amounts are (3) 4x10mm and (1) 4x12mm.

Like JMAC650 said it's really easy to do it yourself. Also if you're going to do it yourself alot of people recommend replacing the stock phillips screws for stainless allen head screws. It helps to make it that much easier the next time. But if you don't want to do it yourself then you'll have to call around and get the going rates on labor. It could vary from $40 to $100 bucks an hour depending on where you live. Here in San Diego it's usually around $60-$100 bucks an hour depending on where you go. I would think they wouldn't charge you more than a half hour of labor but sometimes there is a minimum of 1 hour labor charge no matter how quick they do it. Plus you gotta haul that big ole beast up there too boot!!!

question: do I have to remove the carb from the quad to change the jet? and where do I get the jets, will any dealer have them?

my mods are: K&N filter in the box (right now the lid is on, should I remove it??), Big Gun exhaust, right now it is the Race with new packing, but I want to add the quiet core to it. I live in upstate NY, I am guessing 1000 ft above sea level? I'm not really sure...

I think I am gonna try to to this, so can anyone recomend the correct jet to use?

At sea level to 1000ft I would use a 172.5 mikuni main jet with lid on. Leave the needle in the stock position. Cut 4 coils off the slide spring. Air mixture screw 3 1/2 turns out and you should be pretty close to dead on.
To do the slide spring there are 2 screws on top of the carb. Take them off and remove the cap, cut 4 coils and put it back together. Be careful the rubber diaphram is back in its groove. This will let the stock carb rev up much quicker!
The jets you want are mikuni small round jets.
