which gives you more bang for the buck, the lectron carb or a cdi upgrade, and which should be done first. I plan on doing both eventually, but only one or the other right now.

what year ds do you have? actual power is probably going to come thru the carb the ability to use it will come with the cdi. so i'd did the cdi first, and would again

I would say you are definately going to notice bigger gains with a Lectron setup over CDI. However if your talking the 46HV it is going to cost you upwards of $900 for the complete setup, whereas CDI's can be picked up for around $300 RW or $400 Vortex.

I believe Mr HP said that he runs his 46HV setup DS's on stock CDI's

with stock cams you don't need more than the stock cdi, the peak power is there with that cdi but most will spend to much time in the popping zone.

The DS is WAY UNDER TIMED stock - 27 degrees is rediculous.

If the carb setup costs $900, wouldn't it be better to spend the extra dough and get EFI?

Not to offend anyone, but I strongly disagree with the the carb first. You will not feel that many gains from the carb because you will find that you'll be bumping off the rev limiter constantly, especially if you open the exaust up via end cap or a aftermarket exaust. The stock carb when jetted properly will supply the motor with everything it needs till you get to the point of doing internal mods. If you dont beleive me, ask the people I raced with my old quad. There were very very few quads out there that could run with it and even less that could beat it with equal mods. I very very highly recommend getting the CDI of your choice, modded end cap, and the Dynojet/K&N Jet kit and get it tuned spot on. Then if you still want more, then it is time to start looking carb and internal mods. Or if you want to get a little crazy go N20. At the most your out a whopping $45 for the jet kit that you can easily sell. The end cap and CDI you will always need and use.
