Default Grease Gun type

Hi.
I'm sure you all have one. I'm on my 2nd one in about 5 years. Here's the deal. My first one was a pump type, the new one I wanted is a pistol grip type. The thing is they both leak! I use Mobil 1 synthetic grease, do you think the synthetic has anything to do with it? It's not leaking actual grease, but light pink in color oil all over. (the grease is pink too) The one leaked all over my DS shop manual. I can read the pages, but look kinda goofy reading a book with pink pages

Anyway I thought maybe it's me buying cheap guns. What do you all think? Any recommendations?

Where is it actually leaking at?

I have had the same grease gun for decades and could be older than many of the younger forum members.

Mine is a high quality pistol type with a flexible hose that was purchased an an auto parts wholesaler and the only weigh it leaks is when the weather is warm and the gun has been laying for an extended period of time and I would assume some of the grease liquefies and works its way around the bottom threads where you insert the grease cartridge.

It leaks out of both cap ends & from the little piston that goes in when the handle is squeezed. Gets all over the handle etc. I keep it wrapped in a Walmart bag in a tote for quad trips, but it's still a hassle. I knew poor kids in school less greasy than my grease gun.

Got the same problem, I keep it in a plastic grocery bag to keep the mess managable, the real drag is that oil should be in the grease, I don't go thru it fast enough so I end up pumping some out till I get to good before using it or toos it early

There is not a grease gun made that doesn't make a huge mess.

The pneumatic ones aren't as great as they look on paper. We have one, and I always end up using the regular guns. You're always tripping over the hose with a pneumatic unit.

Now the cat's a$$ of grease guns is a Lincoln electric unit; the kind that uses cordless battery packs. No cord, and you just hold the trigger down until you're happy with how much grease has been pumped in. Get one of those Lincoln guns with about a 4 foot hose and you can grease anything.
