you will most likely have to tilt motor down by removing some of the motor mount bolts. no need to pull motor. i find it easier to remove/install head and cylinder separately.

150lbs compression on a stock DS is way too low. You have to hold throttle wide open and crank a few times until reading settles out. I get ~170lbs with an 8:1 piston.

Thanks Scooby, I'll check the Comp one last time just to make sure but I think the thing is pretty tired and need a boost anyway. And yes, I did hold down the GAS.

Sure you don't have any descent parts laying around, My check book is running low and I want to get this back up without waiting til next month.

you shouldn't have any problem finding a stock piston/rings in Oregon for "free", just ask. i'm on the east coast now, it's 5 days to get to you.

i think you're on the right track with a bad piston or ring, probably the ring.

i crank mine over ~5-10 revolutions to get a full reading.

DaSandBomb, First thing, make sure no one is around when you pull it apart and then scratch the inside of the cylinder with a sharp tool. It will be alot easier to convince the wife that you need a big bore kit

mystereid, did you ever do the 720 to your's? Thanks again for the Bars you gave me last summer they worked great. Haven't seen you over at Florance lately, what's up with that???

It's not so much the Wife thing as the $$$ thing, seems like once you head down that road it's hard to hit the brakes if you know what I mean. It would be fun ride

Well here's the scoop. Got thing apart and the Top ring was history ( I mean blown apart into 30 - 40 pieces) Piston is history (Top ring slot is really bad) and the Sleeve is scored thru the Chrome coating. So, If you start seeing a large enough quaunity oil coming out the Crankcase vent, DON't keep riding it!

Has anyone used the Cast Sleeve inserts? I would imagine that is what the big bores use. Seems they run around $100 than there is the machine work. Any Idea's on alternitives? Things are tight right now and I'm not looking to go High Compression.

Anybody????

Hey DaSandBomb, sorry about your problems.
Do you have the means to post some pictures? I would really like to see some close-up of the top and ringland of the piston.
I don't have the answers to your other questions. I can relate to the money deal though.

I know if the clinder is not too bad they re-nikasil it, but if it is too bad, you will probably have to sleeve it.

Look like it is time for a 720 kit from TVI.
