DS jumping technique

Any tips on jumping the DS
I find that it flys well and soaks up the landings well but some times it seems to head back to earth a bit quicker than i do giving the feeling that its leaving me behind in the air, (most noticable on long fast jumps) Is it me or ist it just the way of thing with a bike of this weight.

I love the long fast jumps. I like to scoot to the front of the seat and clamp on with my knees, staying seated in air then right before landing stand up and nail it. I run 4th gear wide open, let off just before the jump, then pin it again when I hit the bottom of the jump, gear down to 3rd while in the air and nail it when it lands.
I really suck at steep, slow high jumps. I usually do an accidental SUPERMAN!!! Then woodpecker the handlebars. I'm open for suggestions on these. I like about 6' of air and 65' distance.

The DS is a hoot to jump. The machine is preloading, and your not, its the only thing I could think of why your getting ejected. Hit the jump with a little throttle, and as you going up the jump, use your weight and compress the springs a little, then kind of jump up with the machine. Keep trying it, youll get it. What ever you do, dont let off the throttle before lift off, youll come down nose heavy, yikes!

I don't know about the elkas, but as for the jumping qiestion, when you hit the jump keep your gas steady as you lift off thus keeping the quad level, and then when you're in the air, suck your legs tight and kind of "pick up" the bike with your legs. And when you are about to land, kinda push your legs back down. I find this gives me the smoothest landings, even when coming down a bit unsquare. Just don't fully extend your legs before you touchdown. That hurts a little. And best of alll keep the rubber side down

I love jumping my DS, evey time I start thinking that I'm getting good at it I land it on one wheel or get a funny angle on the landing that scares the crap out of me! I have put 7~8ft under my quad and it always seems to bring me home with all my toes and fingers

I have a good time jumping my Baja. I recently took about a 65ft header over a long rolling dune that ended me up with three compressed disks in my back and $1200 dollars worth of front end and a new axle! The one thing I can say about jumping a DS is that you never under estimate the size of this machine. Just as you are feeling confident enough to go higher and farther...stop and evaluate the situation one more time! I got a little cocky with some people watching me launch my Baja X. They just didn't think that a heavy-*** Bombardier could go that far and soak up the landings like that. Well the one thing that's a lot harder to do on these is wick the throttle and bring the nose back up. You can do it, just not like you can on a 350 lb quad!!!

Thanks for the tips guys
I think you might be right on the pre loading I am doing it but not enough to keep up with the suspension of the ds the 250r seemed to jump ok with less input from the rider but it had less travel and didnt weigh much so it was easier to hold onto.
In defense of the ds it realy does soak up messed up landings i had one last time out where it landed on the 2 left wheels and i was hardly on the bike at the time my friends were already laughing as they expected the outcome to be a crash but to my relief and thier amaze ment the ds saved the day
I love that wide front end
