What you are wanting for the exhaust is called and EGT(exhaust gas temprature) gauge. Here is a link to one!!! It is better to go with digital then the gauge type because you want to be able to get an accurate reading when you are riding full throttle. Alot of people use these including me when running alky, so that you wont over heat. Now just to let you now that if u do order this one it will not be at your house before u go to LS Utah becase it says on there website that it takes about 30days. I have one on order and i ordered it on the 24th of last month and havent recieved it yet, but when i do i will let yall know how it does. This is one of the cheaper ones we found that is actually good for what we need.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]Lance

i wasnt able to check the link out yet, but how does temperature show carb settings? (lean/rich)

I'd assume the cooler it is, the richer it is, but ya, whats the optimal temp of the exhaust gas?

Well i am not sure on the temp for gas, but for alky you should run around 1100 to 1200degrees ferinhite. Yes the richer u have it the cooler it runs. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]Lance

Roost you want to get an O2 gauge. An EGT will get you in the ball park, but an O2 sensor will get you on the money. Mine is a cyberdyne and cost about $45 buck 5 years ago. The O2 probe for the gauge will cost you another $50 or so. If you cheap like me, you can pick the probe up from a junk yard for $10.

Sorry to bring this old post back, but I was owndering if someone could tell me about this more. You take the O2 sensor and the O2 LED,and hook them all up and all that good stuff. But what do the readouts mean? Is there like one colour for good, one for rich, and one for lean? And if this is the way, how can you determine say if you are off by 3 main sizes or .5 of one? I guess it's all trial and error until you get the good to go? Or am I wrong? Thanks

Thats the way mine works.

I guess it's all trial and error until you get the good to go? Or am I wrong?
Not wrong at all. This is how it is done.

How long will an O2 sensor work with leaded gas?
I would like to know this question myself.

I was discussing this with a buddy of mine. And he says the readouts will all vary with the typr of O2 sensor you get. Some differ from different temps of the exhaust, or the amount, or whichever. He does bring a valid point... How does this sensor work, and How does it know the optimal air fuel mixture we need?'

Which type of O2 sensor is best?

Im not all that sure about the spacifics of the o2 sensor but I know with an EGT
sensor u have to mount it a certin distance from the head on the header pipe,
once the sensor is mounted and the guage is positioned on the bars u have to
go out and jet the motor like u would without the guage by reading plug colors
ect. When the atv is jetted to your likeing u see what temp the egt guage reads
and anything hotter would be rich and colder would be leaner and u go from
there.

IMHO Unless u are running in various altitudes where u range from say
3000-10,000+ requireing alot of jetting changes I cant really see why u
would need an egt because once the motor is jetted properly u dont
usually have to change it until the weather gets colder.
