clutch abuse question
#1
I have been practicing wheelies, and the best way I do it is to "pop" the clutch in 2nd gear. I can ride out 2nd usually now. anyways, am I hurting the clutch by doing this repeatedly?? I am not at a standstill, I am rolling a bit and I don't rev the crap out of the engine, just a quick rev then apop to get the frontend up. so am I doin damage?? thanks

That's usually the way I do it to. Keep the oil changed often and you should'nt have a problem. My machine is just over a year old, I do wheelies like you and second gear high rpm starts and no clutch problems yet.

Nope that doesn't abnormally wear out the clutch. It is a wet clutch design that is meant to take a lot of hard use. When I ride on our local track to make a tight corner I dab the clutch with wot to break the tires loose.

any time you pop the clutch under a heavy load you are wearing out the disc's fast than if you where babying the clutch. If you install heavier clutch springs you'll have less slippage and less wear. Have fun with the bike ride it the way you want to and replace the clutch when it's time to . It's not too expensive ( $120) and maybe an hours work.
