Next wednesday im gonna take my 02 baja to a local "4-wheeler rodeo" where they have a pole race, barrel race, obstacle course, and drag race. now I know what a drag race is, but what are the others? Ive never been to one of these, and the only jumps ive been able to face up to doing is a 30 ft. tabletop, but ive never got the courage to appempt a double.

I used to barrel race horses. Think of it as a kind of figure 8/slalom course.

Buhjuh,
I entered an ATV Rodeo last March on a Kawasaki V-Force 700, and won every event I entered. They will have 4x4 classes, and a small bore two wheel drive class (up to 450cc), and a big bore two wheel drive class (over 450cc). I competed against V-Forces, Predators, and Raptors; there were no DS650s entered in our class, and back then I owned a V-Force instead of a DS650.

The Pole Race is a straight line of poles that are in the middle of the arena. You race from the gate at the entrance of the arena to the far end of the poles, then come back through the poles in a slalom type race to the near end of the line of poles, then race back through the poles in the other direction in a slalom type race, then race back to the gate that enters the arena, where the timer is stopped. Each ATV races against the clock, and fastest time wins. I beat the second fastest big bore 2-wheel drive ATV (Raptor) by more than two seconds.

The barrel race is a race around three barrels that are placed in the corners of the arena, with two barrels close to the entrance gate, and one barrel in the center of the far end of the arena. A timer starts when you enter the arena, and ends when you exit the arena. Fastest time wins. It is just like a barrel race with horses at a real rodeo, except with ATVs at an ATV rodeo.

The obstacle course at the rodeo I entered had three barrels you raced around, just like the barrel race, except that inbetween the barrels there was a pit you had to go through twice, and a pile of old tires you had to cross, and a few telephone poles you had to cross. The timer starts when you enter the arena, and stops when you leave the arena, just like with the other events, and fastest time wins. It helps when you just jump the pit instead of slowing down to go through it

We also had a mud slalom course in our rodeo. That was a tough one just to finish on a two wheel drive ATV. I took what seemed like forever, hit almost every cone, missed entire gates, and still won my class, LOL.

The ATV Rodeo was a whole lot of fun, so get out there and have a good time. You may want to think twice on a mud slalom course if they have one though. It cost me $12 at the car wash to get my V-Force clean again. That was the muddiest ATV I have ever seen.

The single most important thing you could add for this race is an anti-sway bar. It will corner like a slot car.

is it possiable to make you own sway bar 222? the concept seems simple I just wonder if it needs to some special high strength steel/ aluminum or will mild steel work? also specific points to mount ect.

Well, I don't really know. I talked to MrHp because he has a full machine shop, but for the price of the sway bar kit, he suggested I just buy one due to the amount of labor involved and all. It has a splined tube inside a tube, down links, arms, etc... I have some here with the spacer kit and instructions just for the DS650. Dune Devil is running one of ours too.
