Default Silver Lake - First Time - August 20th & 21st

I'm getting ready to purchase a set of ITP SandStars for the rear. Considering I'll only make one or two trips per year, will the standard front tires do for riding in all that sand?

This is what I'm planning to purchase:
* Rear: 22-11-10 2PR SAND STAR ITP tires on 10 inch .190 3+5 Offset Douglas Aluminum Rims

I don't think ITP offers a rim to fit the Bomb hub? Is there another rim I should be looking at or will the Douglas do?

Douglas has always worked pretty well for me. Your stockers should be fine for the front if you only do occasional duning.

I don't know about the sand stars, I like haulers, I would go with the 160 rim for the sand (save some weight) unless you do monster air. The stock fronts will be just fine.
I will have to see if I got anything going on that weekend, maybe I will make it up there.

I own a set of sand stars and they are pretty good but I agree with wayne go with the haulers. They hook up a whole lot better..... Douglas rims will do ya just fine.
For just the occasional duning your stock front tires will be just fine.

I went to silver lake for the first time on june 19th and all I have is the stock tires all around and I got around just fine. Yea I got my but kicked in a couple of sand drags by built machines with paddles but other than dragging I had absolutly no problems getting anywhere. I went right up and down all the hills in that place and never even came close to getting stuck once. My money says for the person who is only going to go once or twice a year to the dunes and only stay a couple of days each time just air down your knobbies to about 2 - 2.5 lbs and you won't have any problems unless you plan to do a lot of drag racing then you may want paddles. I would just invest my money into a better set of knobbies and get the all around performance. This is just my 2 cents I'm sure others will have a different opinion but I think the knobbies all around will do you just fine.

Sand stars hook up very well for a v paddle and also cost about half that of haulers. You can run .125's on a raptor for the sand.
