Default Starting problem

while waiting for rear axle parts to arrive, I installed a procomm CDI and new battery. I tried to start my engine and hear two things: a clicking noise (one time click) and a high pitched squeal. The single click, or thud, comes from the starter. The high pitched (but quickly fades) squeal comes from somewhere in the back of the ATV. I tried removing the Procomm CDi and replacing it with the stock one but same result. Battery is not the problem. My guess is that starter is bad, but if so, what is noise in back? Maybe loose wire?

Maybe the clicking was one of the fuses blowing. They are under the seat on either side of the airbox.

Is that the starter solenoid attached to the back of the battery box?

It sounds like the battery to me. Bypass yours and jump the bike off a car battery.

It's a brand new battery and I already tried that.

click (single time) is definitely coming from starter. High pitched noise is coming from thing attached to back of battery case (back meaning facing rear shock, not facing rear of atv). To me, it looks like a starter solenoid from my experience working on cars. Anyone know if that is what it is? It is the size and shape of a small pill bottle, bronze in color.

What did you find to be the problem? I am having the same issue. Click from the starter and a high pitched noise from the solenoid behind the battery box.

It sounds like the starter is either seized up or your engine won't turn (I won't say seized). Put it in 5th gear and force roll it to see if the engine will turn. If no problem there (and I hope this is the case) your starter needs attention. The noise is the solenoid and is normal when an extreme amount of amperage goes throught as is the case when the starter resists rotation. Not sure why it failed so suddenly though

It rolls or bump starts fine. If you turn the key off/on a few times and try the starter each time it will start turning over and start. Once it is warm it starts fine. Seems to be worse when it has sat a while or cold.
