Gapless piston rings
#1
Give it to me - pros and cons. If it was better, they'd all have it.
RWR new pistons have a gapless 2nd ring, it started on NOS pistons with the thicker crown, and now I'm told that they all come that way now.
But not everybody's does, so why?
Hey I'm learning, not stabbing, I know there must be reasons...
ANybody got a picture of a gapless ring?

my bros piston from rw had gapless rings. its a better way to go. mine didnot come with them. and i got mine after he did. i think you have to ask for them. it will have a better compression reading with gapless.

I sent this to Elliot at RWR:
I assume the gapless ring reduces piston blow-by, am I to assume this will
decrease posotive crankcase pressure too and reduce the amount of oil that
gets coughed out of the crankcase breather?
I got this reply:
Gapless rings increase compression, especially at startup, decrease blowby, reduce oil consumption and a few other things they brag about that I can't remember just now. The way the DS is set up, oil vapor go through the balancer shaft and into the vent hose. If the balancer doesn't sling the oil away it goes through the vent hose.

I use the "total Seal" rings, and I like them very much. My motor used to cough up oil after a few long drags, but when I switch my rings to the Total seals it stopped that completely I'm sure it helped with compression to, but it is not a noticable difference.
