Default Type and wieght of oil?

Hey i just got my new Ds650. Its a 2000 and it runs great and since i got it yesterday i figured i would do a complete run through of the quad. I did an oil change, or at least a drianed the oil that was in there but i need to put oil back in. everyone keeps tellin me that cherry is a good oil to put in and redline 20-50 is also good however where can i get these types of oils and how much $ will it be. Also what wieght oil should i get and how much will the tank usally hold. i have asked many questions so far and everyone has been answered thanx..

Heck, just use SAE 10W40 thats whats recommended i used 15W40 and thats fine too it doesnt make all that much difference unless your ganna drive them when its -20 degrees or 100 degrees then you should use different stuff because its all just thicknesses

Before you put new oil in, you should take out your OIL SCREEN in your OIL TANK and clean it of all dabree. Tghis is very important.
The oil screeen is attached to the fitting, that the big black hose clamps to. take a Cresent and take it out.

Hey RickyD650, you should think about using a good synthetic like Redline or Amsoil. Amsoil makes a great synthetic oil for ATV's. Amsoil synthetic 4-Stroke 0W-40 is especially formulated for your use. Because of the broad viscosity range you get superior lubrication on cold start ups and extreme temperature driving, it's all I use, with great results! For more info and a free product catalog go to:

Whatever oil you use, make sure it is not made for automobiles. Auto oil has friction modifiers that will ruin your wet clutch. You'll need to buy a motorcycle oil. Some Auto oils are okay, but I don't know which ones and I don't plan to experiment with my pocketbook & time. Also, read this article and you will know a lot more about oil, and it should help you decide which oil to buy as well.

Yep, so long as it doesn't have any friction modifiers in it, wouldn't want to screw up the clutch. Pay the few extra bucks for a premium atv/cycle oil, it's actually pretty cheap insurance for your investment!
