Default Stroking the DS

Seems like I can't find a welder to weld my case in my area so I may just split the case and replace it. However since I'm at it I'm going to replace the shift forks, get a slightly bigger bore and more compression with Hpresearch, and... what I would love to do while I'm at it is throw a stroker crank.

I think MisterHP offers them but I need to call him to make sure. Is this a lot of work to drop in while the motor is apart? Anything to consider check for? I keep getting mixed results from friends on stroker kits. Just want to pick some knowledgable brains here on the topic. Any info on the subject matter would be greatly appriciated.

For duning (and I would think trail riding) the stroke is awesome. I'm geared pretty tall and still don't have to shift very often.

I suggest staying with one builder. Don't get HP Research on some parts then someone else on other parts.

You'll need to go with a common stroke and Pami is really the only one with experience stroking the 650. I know HP is looking to do it and may have done a few but, Pami has Years of experience with stroking the DS. TVI also has done some stroking.

If you're buddies have had mixed results and you don't have local support / knowledge you may be much better off with the 720/730 kits that have good results.

I would get your tranny undercut while you are in there - especally with the added power you are looking at.

you don't have the race head yet do you? you might try that first it would be a lot easier than a full break down.

OH YEAH! The stroker makes awesome torque and increased the top end as well. Just shift any time, it will pull through it.

HP is doing strokers- I have one!

It is critical to stay with one builder on this, because pami requires their piston/rod/spacer plate combo, while HP requires a specific rod/piston/gasket combo. Then you start dealing with unknown cam clearances and valve clearances if you mix and match.

HP 715 stroker: 4.71, 4.73, 4.73, 4.7xx all weekend at the Paducah Nationals. Naturally aspirated, no nitrous, on gas.

the honda 400 with piston and labor was $2200, so you know it will be there somewhere.

I tried calling Eric today but no answer.. and I just didn't feel like talking to an answering machine. I want to inquire on the cost and labor of doing a stroker. My problem is that I have a machined TVI head and I don't know if that is going to hurt or hamper what I got. I may have to crawl back to Gary (Hope he is doing well) for the rod. Perhaps just send my motor to Eric and see what he can do. Personally I'd rather do it myself, just to take the challenge and rip the motor apart and know my bike.

Duneme what do you mean "tranny undercut"?

Sandman I would love to have a turbo setup.. but we over here on the east coast can only drool at all that sand you guys are lucky to have over there. Turbo would be kind of overkill over here... still it would be neat to try one. I wonder how it would fare on a MX track.
