Default jet kit or correct jetting?

this may be a dumb question, but is there a
difference between a jet kit(dyno) and properly
jetting your quad to run with its mods..

A dynojet kit generally has a new needle and several main jets which you can choose from. Depending on the extent of the kit it sometimes comes with other things also. It allows you to rejet your bike for mods you put on it which increase or decrease the breathability of the motor. Does that answer your question??

I have installed the jet kit per Dynojet instructions for altitude but the ATV runs extremely rough. I was wondering if anyone had had better luck than I had with this ATV and the Dynojet kit.

I installed the dynojet per their instructions and it was terrible. The kit is a waste. It takes alot of mods before a change in the mainjet is needed especially if ya run at 2000 ft or higher. Use the factory needle and jets and just adjust the needle. I tried every possible jet in the dynojet kit with nothing running at well as the facotry 165 main and the needle at the second to the bottom clip. I have a slip on FMF exhaust with k and N filter and run at 3500 ft generally.

so if i am running a hmf
slip on and k&n filter you suggest
messing with the stock jetting as far as positioning and things

i am below 2000ft if that matters

Needle on richest position (all the way down) and a Mikuni 175 main shoud get you in the ballpark. http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...did/407419.cfm

I would go 170 mikuni main stock needle stock position , and adjust the fuel screw . This is what I had with the exact setup you do at 960 ft. and k&n in the box w/ lid on

JMO but don't waste your hard earned money on a jet kit. I have an HMF/K&N and run a 170(Mikuni) main jet with the needle on the 5th (richest) position. I live at 800 ft and ride anywhere from 400 to 1500 with no problems. If this ain't dead on for you, it will be damn close. Just go to your local dealer and grab a few main jets, there only a couple dollars each. Keep in mind that the temperature also affects your jetting.

Those jet kits are a waste of $$. Like DSengineer said, use the stock needle in the richest position and a 170-175 main jet.
