Its kinda strange that u have no packing left at all on a fairly new bike ?
I got some glass braided laging bandage for exausts im going to wrap that around the perforated tube and wire tie it on to keep it snug
I havent done it yet but im thinking it should stay together a lot better than normal packing.
As for power loss i have heard it said that if the packing is gone gas is free to travel through the perforations and the turbulance can increase back pressure but if you still have a stock end cap i doubt it will be effecting you.

Do you think it came from the factory w/ no packing?
Im 95% sure you will lose power w/ out packing. you can use fiberglass from say furnice filters if you dont want to buy the stuff from the bike shop. pack tight, after I wrap mine w/ fiber glass Ithen wrap w/ thin wire to make it tighter and EZer to put back in the can.

yep im 100 percent sure it came with packing from the dealer. I took the endcap off almost right when i got it, i never touched anything in there except the endcap..........so it wasnt me, gues they just packed it really crappy.

Good Luck on getting the info on that question.. I asked the same thing about a week ago and NADA !!
What I understand about it is that packing does have SOME effect on performance. I just dont know how much and how to controll it.
I saw a comment from 222 ( aka Randall ) with respect to performance related to packing in the exhaust but never saw an explination.
I can tell you this. I have to repack mine 2 to 3 times a year. and if not done right it will get blown out quickly. I have a modded exhaust cap that flows pretty good and can understand why the packing would get blown out. But if you have a stock cap on yours , I would have to say that there might have not been much if at all any packing to begin with. .. justa guess.
