My starter was making alot of noise. I took it off and the gear was shot. Then I took the side cover off and the double gear was shot so was the gear that touches the fly wheel. starter was $311.00, double gear was $106.00, the other gear was $46.00. Thank god my fly wheel gear was okay. I have a 2001 DS650 black Is this common. If so I am selling right now. I can't believe a starter cost $311.00

whoa... thats a lot of cash for parts (bomb charges WAY too much for oem stuff...)

what kind of noise was it? i have some sort of starter noise going on, but still havnt pulled the starter to see if that is the problem.

Was it a harsh grinding type noise upon startup? (when the starter would spin?)

Is the starter parts the same as the bmw 650f? If it is I think that the bmw parts are cheaper.

You may have to call around but, a bigger dealer will give a 10%-15% discount on parts? Some get more some get less but, this is reasonable, especially on high dollar orders.
