The base elka's will run you in the neighborhood of $500. If you can't afford top quality aftermarket try and find some stock ones off of a new baja. They are a lot better than the older ones and you should be able to find them cheap. They are inverted and pressurized, and for a lighter person work very well.

Without a doubt get the TCS shocks. Todd @ TCS has some really good setups for the DS650. I have done a whole lot of testing on both shocks. The Elkas were always off on the springs and valving. I have only had one TCS shock ever go back to TCS for revalving. That shock was not even a TCS shock it was a Works rear shock that Todd worked for me.

I can go into this allot further if you want to PM me!

How much are the TCS shocks for a DS? I have had Custom Axis, Elka, and Ohlins shocks, and you are right about the Elka shocks being sprung and valved wrong. I have bought Elka shocks for two different ATVs, and both sets were later sold on ebay because they did not perform as good as I wanted them to. Elka shocks seem to work good for cruising, but both Custom Axis and Ohlins are better for really aggressive riding, ... especially Ohlins.

Maybe I need to try TCS this time.
