Default 2000 DS oil change ?

I recently bought a 2000 DS650. I have the manual and it states to change the oil, start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes and if the oil/temp light does not go out, you need to bleed the system. My question is do I now have to drain all the fresh oil that I just put in to bleed the system? Can I take the oil filter off without all the oil in the tank coming out where the filter is?

Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to the ATV scene.

Thanks,
Steve

You will not lose all your oil, just a little. Take the oil filter off, either make sure the kill switch is on, or take a spark plug out, get a big slotted screwdriver, and open the bleeder screw, you don't have to take it all the way out. (This is the only slotted screw behind the filter)
crank your motor until you see oil coming out the hole, then tighten it up, put the filter back in and you should be ready to go.
