I know of a couple of people who have these boxes and are happy with them, keep your stock box around in case the new one fries though, that is the only problem I've ever heard of these. After they get some hours on them they seem to work pretty well though.

 

I have a CDI on my DS and I'll say it is a must. I have the Procom one and I got it from the procom website and paid I think $130 for it so you might want to just get it from them to make sure you don't get screwed.

I haven't had any problems with mine yet. And I probably have about 300 miles on it or more. I have heard bad things about the rectifiers so I never got one of those but the CDI works great. I would suggest it.

 

I also am running the procom cdi. have been running it for about 6 months no problems. got it off ebay for $97

 

I HAVE A PROCOM one too.It works great.I SOLD MY BIKE so I'm selling that,k& n filter and pre filter plus more on ebay right now.just type is a search for ds 650.

 

OK, stupid question. What is a CDI box and what does it do?

 

The CDI is the electronic box that controls the ignition curve / timing (when the spark plug fires.) It also is the device that sets the RPM limit; if there is a limit. Most CDI boxes advance the timing a small amount, and some like the MSD or the Vortex allow you to choose from several different ignition curves.

 

A CDI box controls the ignition timing and the rev limit. It is located on the left hand side of the quad just under the tank facia. Just as Suave has become the shampoo giant it is, Procom has become the CDI giant it is. They sell CDI boxes to White Brothers and many others. Theoretically, some of the reselling companies have thier own performance curve, some do not - but none of them publish them.

Replacement CDI boxes range from about $100 to about $400. The less expensive ones have a single curve, the more expensive ones are more flexible, multiple curves and more options.

 

i always here bad things about procom cdi's,

always burning up and things like that,

any others you suggest ?

and if you do mostly trail riding are they worth it?

 

I have the Ron Wood CDI box, i've heard alot about new companies havin cdi boxes but RWR is one thats been known as the solid groundwork for the rotax motors, i heard good things about Vortex, big gun tryed a cdi box but havent heard anything about them. RWR cdi box eliminates the limiter all together while the vortex goes to 9250 or 9000, somethin like that, i think the same limit as big gun but im not 100% on those numbers.
