That's definately a concern... I'm going to install a kill switch before I go too... My main reason for going to a lower sprocket was because of my weight, plus the paddles, as they are pretty heavy. My Banshee wouldn't pull me up Olds, etc in 4th until I regeared... I figured I'd be proactive and take care of it on the DS before I left....

sorry don't mean to be a spoiler but i rather run a 14 up front in the sand on my stocker or 760!! 2nd gear starts for racing and a low first gear for getting the paddles spinning when climbing. with 5 gears, top speed isn't usually an issue and the paddles suck up power like crazy. my 2 cents

JEFFROE, MrMeaner mentioned possible over rev with a 15 tooth and 20" tires...have you ever encountered this with a 14 tooth, that your aware of? Are you running a 20" paddle tire? I'm really not too concerned with overall top speed, since the paddles, and sand would definately drop it considerably with a stock countershaft sprocket anyway...
I think I'll take the advice of buying a 15 tooth, and then put it on if necessary.
Thanks again,
Justin

With your mods I would leave the stock sprocket on. If you're into draggin up Olds then even with the 14T on the front you still might not be able to pull 4th gear up it. Plus you would have to shift twice going through the whoops and up the hill if you start in 2nd. I dropped down to a 15T once and didn't like it. Second gear starts weren't a problem either with the stock sprocket. Third gear wasn't tall enough and the barely modded YFZ's were just a little faster when we were dead even going through the whoops but they would slowly gain on me up the hill. I still had plenty of power but was topping out in third and fourth was too much. I've got basically the same mods as you minus the CDI. I wasn't hitting my rev limiter either so that wasn't a factor. But hey you can always swap the sprocket really quick if you aren't getting the results you want. Just bring them with when you go to the dunes.

Yup, since it's such an easy swap, I'm just going to pick one up....they're super cheap thru RMATV.

Make that two! I ran a 14/40 combination for years with a Ron Wood Racing CDI and his stage II mods - Not a bad set up.

lol wow sand really sucks up the power, i run 16/40 with my 22" excavators and those aren't light non-agressive tires

I just remembered...I'll actually be running 22" Holeshots in a week or two...so I might just switch over to the 15, and then take the stock sprocket with me when I go to Glamis....that settles that....
