Ds650 starting problems
#1
I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if some people might give me some advice on what to do. I have a 2001 DS650 with a White Bros CDI on it and since I purchased it used I have had starting problems. For some reason it takes about 5 minutes to start and the battery does not recharge while it's running. I know from past quads that there is a problem with either the starter, battery(which I bought 4 months ago), sparkplugs(brand new), or possibly in the contacts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum !
I had a similar problem which cost me 2 cdi units. First things first ... Check all the connections on the battery to make sure they are clean and tight. Next trace the ground wire from the battery to the frame. It should be attached to a flange on the frame upright next to your right leg. This ground connection will come loose and cause all sorts of problems. I would take that off if its not already loose and clean off the frame and re attach it. I hope that was your problem!
If all the connections are good then try switching back to the stock CDI and see what happens.
If not .... then I would probably start to question the recitifyer (SP)

The bike is firing, it just takes a while for it to actually start and I usually end up hooking it up to a battery charger to make it start. I'll check my ground and run through all of the contacts in the wiring. I might also change the fuses whenever I get around to it. Thanks
