Ds 650 Vs. Rapter 660
Guys just curious to see what your replies are to who would win an eighth mile dune race between the Ds. 650 and the 660 Rapter. Also who would win a 25 mile cross country race through the woods.

I suppose there would be a number of factors to consider first. Are both stock? How experienced are the riders? How much does each rider weigh? 1/8 of a mile isn't much the Raptor might get the jump because it is lighter. Honestly, who really cares? Isn't this like comparing green and red apples? Both are the same fruit but depends on how each is picked and grown.

Depends on rider and tires, both stock machines im assuming, on the road the raptor may pull off quicker (rider and mods depending), also depends on what year raptor and DS, the 2001 raptors r slower than the 2002 raptors, and the 04 DS's are smaller/weigh less than other DS's, the 2001 DS's have a lower rev limit. In general id say they pull off the line even but the DS takes over after 2nd, the raptor doesnt have the 3rd, 4th and 5th gear like the DS does. And the woods race, thats tough cause there are more 'depends' lol, the long races id go wit the DS. Look at the Baja race, DS domintated and came out wit the DS650 Baja for winnin the race lol, bragging maybe!! haha. Tight woods are an advantage to the raptor tho, but i dont like how tippy the raptors r so i dont see it as that big an advantage, but thier tranny's are a disadvantage lol.
Ive raced many raptors, stock vs stock and piped/jetted vs piped jetted, never once did the raptor win. I pulled off the line quicker against the stock raptor, which was a 2001, and just kept gaining distance. The piped and jetted, 2002 raptor, we were even off the line but as soon as i shifted to 3rd he was behind me and stayed there.

thank you! Ya just answered my ?s on this subject.See I Have a chance to sell my Mojave an buy either a 01 bomb or 02 raptor, the bomb is 3000 an rapt is 3500,the bomb seems more planted solid an not as tippy or rattly, maybe its me but the yammie just seems cheap compared to the bomb.I posted in buying bikes but no 1 answered my post,Well 1 again thank youI dont know bout either bike for reliabilty excecpt the yammies Got tranny problems. He guy raced the bomb an it smoked on start up an cleaned out,he stated he put tape on the tach at 7000 gand so he didnt go over as the bomb has no rev limiter he told me.Is this true an if he raced it do I have to worry bout buying a 2500=3 grand quad an having it cost me?

sugarhead, these sound like good prices, what mods do each bike have, it sounds like the ds has a woods cdi, which is nice because you will want one if it don't. If you are a larger person, I would definitly get the Ds. If you will be riding a lot of tight trails, then the Raptor may be the way to go. Also get a good look at both and look for problems before you make your decision.

he said the ds had 3 grand of work into it,From what I saw or was told he said he ran 50 wt oil caused he raced it.It had nerfs a pro circuit pipe,it was loud as all hell, enff to wake the deadLOL.It was fast man the torque curve was omg.
Just amazing.i didnt even ge tit out of 1st or 2nd it musta had the power ,where my Mo has it in 3 or 4th,it scared me an I have a SHee,he said he had it out in Pa an it was eating up Banshees.he said he was clocked doin 110 w it on a straight way,SHIZnit! HOT SEX!The Craptor had nuthing in mods,he said it had less the 250 miles on it or like 20 hours of useage.I stalled it in the woods an the starter as I hit it was making clanging sounds,I wa slike O crap dont tell me I blew it up,the 1 neighborhood kid I was with got it going, but it was a strange mettalic clang, kinda like when gm starters are going out lol.If it wasnt for the tranny on 01 an 02 an havng to drop another round of money to rebuild my SHee maybe I would definaely go w the Raptor being it has reverse. From what I have heard an spent Yamaha has left abad taste in my mouth kinda.I know Banshees are like supermodels, from the start so I knew what I was getting into from the get go.If I hadnt spent a Crap load of money w east coast atv an now rebuilding it again w a friend maybe Id take a risk.
