Default Carbs for the DS

Now I just got to thinking. Do I need a carb designed for the DS? or can I say find a 48mm Carb from something else and stuff it in there? We have a lot of harley parts and stuff floating around here, I was just wondering if this would be possible. As long as it will provide more HP, I'll stuff it in there.
Anyone ever looked into this or given it a try? Post any thoughts here. Thanks

no carb is really designed specifically for the DS, they all came from other applications.
the Mikuni TM42 was made for the Harley 1200's I think, the Mikuni TM45 was designed for the 1340cc Evolution motor.
The Lectrons were designed for motorcycles as well.
The Edelbrock Quicksilvers were originally developed for bikes.
The fuel injection systems being used on DS's came from bikes also.

I really wish that Edelbrock carburetor for the DS was a reality - it would be great to see how it stacks up against the other options. I suppose a 'shootout' could be had, even now, but there would be no use as only one guy gets to have the Edelbrock. (BillDS650)

I think the edelbrock could be fitted to the DS, you can get one from a edelbrock dealer, like a model made for a harley, and do some retrofitting for throttle and stuff - with a little ingenuity it could be done I think.
might be interesting for somebody to try...

If you try this just make sure the accelerator pump is on the left side of the carb to clear the pipe.
