i have read all the threads about batteries dying dead batteries etc. but i will still post my problem i picked up my 650 last night rode it for a couple of hours got home and tried to start it this morning and the battery was dead, i went to skidoo and the parts guy tried to tell me it was my stator and it was gonna cost 515.00 dollars i told him let me research a little so i went to walmart got a 2 amp trickle charger charged it for 15 minutes and it said it was full so i put it in went to go riding got to the pit and it rolled over slow but finally started so then i rode it for two hours shutting it off at least 8 times and it started fine every time, i drove home 25 minutes went to try it again and it rolled over really slow but started, i cleaned the battery posts and the negative ground on the frame and tried it and it does the sam thing, the question is how can i tell if my stator is bad is there a test and how can i check my regulator to see if it is working? someone in a thread said to start it and diconnect the battery to see if it keeps running,what will this tell me? and i tried to get the top off of the battery to see if it needed water but it is a sealed one dated 2003, thanks fellas your guys are tops

 

More than likely its your rectifier! Mine went bad...it will drain your battery! Replace that sucker!

 

I have replaced my battery 2x's in 4 years and I think I do a pretty good job maintaing them, my guess is it's your battery NOT your stator , rectifiers have been know to fail but thats not real common.
Here's the test:
with the bike running put your volt meter on the battery post and bring hte engine rpms up, if you see more than 15vdc than your rectifier/regulator is defective.
next:
unplug the magnito wiring harness ( under tank) take 2 of the yellow wires( there are 3or 4 yellow wires I think) and with the bike running set the voltmeter to Vac and you should have a voltage of 10-12vac. Double check your readings , if all is well it's likely your battery.
To test your battery:
take battery to auto zone or checker and have them load test the battery or If you try starting the bike with the volt meter on the battery terminals and the voltage drops down around 8-9 volts as you are turning the motor over than you have a bad battery.

Something you may try. Take the positive cable off the battery. Insert a light bulb with leads between the positive side of the battery and the cable you removed. It shouldn't light up. If it does, you have a drain somewhere. Make sure all your switches are off, and if you need to, remove the bulb from the tail light (if it's on as soon as the ignition is on). If it does light up, try pulling fuses to find out what circuit the drain is in. You also may be able to take your battery to a motorcycle shop and have them test it.

You could also charge up the battery and remove the positive cable. If it still goes dead, you have a bad battery.....

ok ill go get one brb with all the specs, if i put it on my battery with the ignition of how many volts should it read?,my charger says there is 25.5 volts in the battery, is that ok?

 

So without performing any tests your Bombardier mechanic diagnosed the problem to be a $500 part? Sounds like a money hungry dealership to me. I would suggest finding another mechanic to deal with.

 

i just put mine in the shop for this and they checked all that stuff and found nothing

, they charged battery and said it was fine, when i went to pick it up it did it again..

they have no clue, he said they went through all electrical and nothing was wrong..

still doing it!

 

yeah he is a really nice guy lol id like to never mind lol, im gonna try the voltmeter in 3hrs when the better half gets home and see what i get, ill let you guys know what happens, seems like in most of the posts i have read about everything that most guys dont tell us what was wrong with there machine and if it got fixed,
