Default battery dies overnight

chirochris -what are the symptoms your machine is showing?

I had a starting issue that was driving me nuts for a while and it ended up being the trigger coil that was defective. The static test across the coil appeared to be good but in reality it didn't work and wasn't send the signal to the CDI to generate spark. Sometimes you just have to start replacing parts.

the symptoms my bike was showing was that it would run sometimes and than just die in the middle of no where and than it would start for a while and then die and not start again- it was a pain in the but.

my symptoms are:

it will try to start and then it will go click-click-click... like a starter, but if you wait a minute you can get it to start..

or it will begin to start and go bbzzz and i would have to shut the key off and try again, if i dont ride for a wk it will

do the click, bbzzz combo.. the battery shows a full charge and if you mess with it for a while it will always start,

unless i keep trying and drain the battery...nobody knows!

I can't tell you how many times I've seen that click issue and it's either a poor ground or a weak battery- the battery MUST be tested under a starting load and not just checked while its sitting there with no load on it. The bbzzz sound is just the starter free spinning when the motor doesn't start correctly. ( unless you hear it everytime and the bike doesn't start, in which case you've lost your starter gears- highly doubtful)
If there is insufficient cranking power than you'll hear the starter solenoid clicking open and closed and the motor will sound like it's turning over slower than normal or not at all. I'm still real suspicious of your battery until you get it load tested at your local checker auto or somewhere.
good luck

Default battery dies overnight

ok i got my voltmeter now and here are the results, i tested the three yellow wires on the bundle above the battery on the side coming from the stator all three wires were 10.05 with the machine idling and all three went up to 40 when it was reved up to approximutly 3000 rpm so i am thinking this is ok? how can i check the rectifier?is there a way? and with the machine running and the lights on the voltage at the battery was 12.26 volts and revved up it was 13.66 volts is that ok? and with the machine running and the lights off the reading at the battery was 14.6 at idle and revved up it went to 14.7, does this sound correct? any ideas anyone thanks ill brb gonna have checker check my battery, how do i test for a short?

sounds like your stator and rectifier are fine- the battery is probably the problem. Your lucky to even get 2 years out of these little batteries. Voltage at the battery post ( while the engine is reving)@13.7vdc says your rectifier is doing its job.
IF you have some one hold the voltmeter leads on the battery while you start the bike they will see the power dip as it turns the engine if it falls below 10volts or so you have a weak( meaning needs to be replaced) battery. It may hold a charge as you ride around and may start just fine when you shut it down for a few minutes and start up, but let it sit over night or a few days and it'll get frustrating real fast. Get a new battery and put the problem behind you for awhile.
