EFI is $1500, for everything (Don't forget you are getting n EGT sensor, as well as water temp sensor etc.) and if you add the costs of your carburetors and all other accessories, you'll be over $1000. EFI will always be tuned right, you will always have the right amount of fuel, there is no guesswork, no wondering 'do I need to jet up when I go down to sea level? Should I juet down if I am going to run at 7,000 feet elevation?' EFI takes care of all of that. I think the Lectron is the carburetor that most closely mimics EFI, however the EFI will still do a better job. With two injectors you'll have enough fuel delivery for however fuel hungry your engine is.

Take a look at their website:
http://www.kmsperformance.com/
Their website isn't spectacular right now (but it's got some cool videos!) so to get the info you should call them - they can fill you in on the finite details.

xr650warrior, that was my thoughts completely,it would be hard for me to shell out 1500$ for something i have no knowledge about when it comes to repairs....although i wish some one would set up a shootout against the duels and or both 48's with efi just to see how much of a H.P advantige it has to see if it is worth the 1500$....

It all depends on what you are looking to get out of your machine - EFI means you will ALWAYS have the right amount of fuel and air for the best power. The Lectron has the ability to provide more air and fuel to a much larger extent since you don't have to change jets however that isn't based on sensors just whatever the carburetor wants to put out. I've seen the EFI setup, KMS did a nice job in placement and the setup looks tight. The efi injectors themselves also look quite nice and there to my knowledge isn't a lot that can go wrong with them. I would have to assume (I never asked) that the electronics are solid state which means as long as the solder joints for the wires are good then there isn't a whole lot to go wrong. KMS has a EFI / Turbo bike that has been running desert races for quite some time with no trouble. Kelly also has a 2003 DS650 Baja that is 100% stock aside from the EFI / Turbo & some 60% clutch springs. I know they run the crap out of that machine, hillshooting nearly 100% of its operating time and as I recall it has yet to break down.
If you are really curious about the EFI, you should call KMS since they know a lot more about it than I do. (I just know it is pretty and would look good on my 2001 DS... And then adding the turbo later would look even better!)
I think I'm personally just not a big fan of the whole TM45/48/ 'jet style' carburetors. I really like the ability of the Lectron to do a good job of adjusting the fuel delivery without changing between 1 of 5 or 10 main jets (plus pilot jets, and needle clips etc.) Then the EFI takes that one step further and tunes the fuel/air delivery based on what the engine is doing with what it is given.
