Tail light question
#1
When I picked this quad up, the tail light did not work. I just replaced it with a standard bulb, and found that when I have my key on, my tail light is always on, even when my headlight is not. Is this normal? This is the 1st DS I've owned, so I'm not sure..... None of my other bikes have had this occur.
Thanks for any info.

Thanks for the reply, however my bike doesn't have a parking brake. I cleaned the 2 electrodes that extend out of the rear brake, but that didn't do anything either. As a matter of fact, I just unplugged them both, and the light still stays on. Hmmmmm.....

Both my 2004 Outlander's tail light comes on when the ignition switch is in either (headlight/no headlight) position. The bulb has two elements, so the brake light works in conjunction with the tail light.

I wondered about that, however when I step on the brake pedal, the light's intensity doesn't change. Now that I think about it, it's really bright...... Any idea why the light would act as though the brake was being depressed when it's not?

I'm just going to shoot from the hip, but it sounds to me that your brake light switch is activating your brake light. With the ignition off, check continuity on the switch. There should be none. If there is, you have a bad switch.....
Hope this helps!

Yes, lol...I did get the correct bulb..I know, sometimes that stuff does happen. As far as checking the continuity of the switch, I'll probably have to take it to the dealer. I don't have the equipment for that...then again for what I would spend at the dealer, I could buy it.
Is there a detrimental issue I need to be aware of if there is something wrong with the switch, and with the possibility that the brake light is activated in this state? I'm leaving for the dunes in 2 weeks, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get any new parts from Bombardier in time. I guess I could always take the bulb back out until after my trip.

hey can't he just get a multimeter 20.00 at radioschack and pull the wires off of the brake switch by the peddleand check and see how many ohms resistance he has? shouldnt it be infinate and then push down on the rear brake peddle to see if he has less resistance? does that make sense? maybe your brake switch is shorted out inside by your rear brake? or maybe the wire going down to your brake is shorting out, i done have my manual yet so i am just guessing let us know if you get it fixed
