I used the factory synthetic for the first 500 hours of the machine then switched to rotella. I change my oil every 15 hours, so neither oils every go past a little dark. I can't tell any difference between the two and from all the reading I have done, I think it is one of the best oils besides amsoil or redline you can buy.

What is wrong with starting a new thread asking for an up to date opinion? Searching old threads can be misleading to new people, we learn new things everyday. There might be some new input someone has to put in that can help out.

i'm not really sure i have read all 15 pages on oil chages again and still can't find out who said they used rottella t synthetic from walmart other than one from iowa, the reason i am asking is cause i live in minnesota and it is getting down to 30'f at night and i have castrol gtx 10w40 in her now but i am gonna be riding this winter alittle and wanna make sure i have protection and i dont fry my starter, i thought that maybe the synthetic is a little better for winter maybe not but i am truly sorry (RICKY) for forcing you twisting your arm to read my thread about rotelle t please accept my apology,

Dave

You can look on the websites for the oil and they list the pour points for the oils. I don't know what gtx is, but rotella synthetic is about 40 below zero. It is not a good idea to start a motor below the pour point of an oil and there will be some starvation before the oil pump warms up the oil and pumps it. I know most summer 20-50 oils pour only down to 25 degrees, and that isn't that far away now. And it is always good to go through the old posts, but yes, there is always new info out there as well. Good luck.

It could have been me J/A650.....I did a lot of online research regarding synthetic and Rotella T seems to be the most cost effective quality synthetic oil safe for quads and motorcycles IMO. I was looking at a catalog from Ski Doo and they want $10 a QUART for synthetic. Amzoil is another option but your still looking at about $6-7 per quart.
