Default What do shops use to straighten axles?

My brother needs to get his axle straighened and he has all kinds of different things to use at his work. Just was curious what the machine shops use to do it. Thanks

yes a hydraulic press, and lots of trial and error going in and out of a lathe just to rotate by hand with a dial indicator to measure run-out. chuck it up, indicate her, mark the high spot, go the press and bend slightly, go back to the lathe and chuck her again for another indication, remark high spot, etc, etc...

Yep thats what they used to do mine.... a big friggen press and lots of time.
Thats definitely the inexpensive way to go but whats going to happen is now the axle will be MORE likely to bend in the same spot with less effort to do so. Start saving your pennys to buy a new one, its justa matter of time. Mine lasted about a month and then I was back to the wobbles.

Metal isnt supposed to bend so it breaks down and gets weaker at the bending point, just imagine the ammount of force placed on the axle. Ya might find this interesting, when I spoke to DuraBlue to get my new axle they told me the strength of the stocker was something like 30,000 PSI +/- . Their axels are 300,000 PSI+/-.... I suppose thats why the warranty them. They wouldnt give up the makeup of their materials.
