Default 04 Baja X wont rev above 3k RPM...Help!!

I recently Did an oil change and after I decided to start it up and run it up and down the street a few times, well I never made it out of the driveway. After warming her up I was unable to raise the RPM above 3k. I checked the plugs and they seem fine, Idle and start up are fine. I live in Big Bear Ca. That
puts me at an altitude of about 7000 feet I'm thinking this might have something to do with it, but I dont have a service manual to help me. Could this be as simple as a carb adjustment? Any recomendations?
Before I moved up the hill I never had any problems with it. I dont plan on doing much riding up here but would like to make sure I'm good to go before I pack and go for some fun riding . Thanks for any help you can give.

The altitude will affect performace but not to that degree. How long did it sit with that fuel in it? It kinda sounds like maybe your choke is stuck on???Maybe?

I'm thinking it set for about 4 months. When I push the choke in it seems that the idle reduces to normal.

There is two positions on the choke are you sure you have pushed it all the way back in?? When you say it doesn't rev above 3k what happens? does it cut out and stuff or just not go any higher?

That's a pretty good altitude.

Please describe what occurs.

Sputtering?
Lack of power?
Simply won't rev?

You have three basic jetting circuits:
1. Low (nothing to 1/4 throttle) - this is Pilot jet size
2. Mid (1/4-3/4 throttle) - This is needle position
3. Top End (3/4 to full throttle) - This is Main jet size

The choke should really only do something in the first 1/4 throttle.

Does iit start when cold without any choke? If so, it is probably rich on the low / bottom end and you can probably jet down the pilot.

I almost positive it's not altitude. I ride in the Big bear lake arrowhead area and never change jets. NO probs at all. It's just trail ridding. If your WOT on these trails you will soon be kissing a tree...LOL

I would be very curious to here more on the symtoms also

When I try to rev it up it cuts out. Even if I try and do it slowly as soon as i get over 3k
it cuts out.

I say drain the gas in the tank and carb. Fill it full of fresh gas. If you smell your gas tank, it probably smells a little sour.

I jet for sea level and ride up around 7-8,000 ft all the time with no jetting change. Yea, it aint as fast as it could be, but power in 5th gear has never been a problem.

I've only seen the choke left on cause the bike to have an idling problem and foul plugs.
