DS pipe
#3
I put the CT Racing pipe on my DS a couple of weeks ago, some good, some bad.
First the good, it fit properly, actually better than stock. It gives me the flexibility that I wanted by offering me the option of running the Supertrap disk system I can tune it, and have a legal spark arrested system, OR put the standard tip on and have a loud unrestricted performance pipe. And the best part, it works! It gave me the torque that I wanted when I bought the quad.
Now the bad. The cheap chroming job burnt off immediately, not just bluing, i mean burnt and peeled. It also leaks at every joint except at the head.
If looks aren't important it is a good pipe, I base this on the performance. I am running a Woods CDI box, a K&N filter & Filterskin (no air box), a 175 main jet (165 was stock), and the pipe. This jetting works well for my elevation, approx. 1500 feet. It is a whole new bike, you can ride all day in third gear. Hillclimbs that were second gear are now easy third gear hills!

I paid $298 for the cdi box. It's alot of doughnuts for what it is, but it makes a big difference. I heard alot about the stock limiter kicking in at 7700 and that the motor makes no more power above 7k to 7.5k, but on my bike it seemed to hit the limiter at what felt more like 6k. Now there is a ton more elbow room. In my opinion it's worth it. But do the pipe & the jetting first, you'll get more bang for the buck.

I finally decided to go with the Big Gun system. I also ordered the quiet core w/spark arrester.
All the kits seem to be around the same price. (Big Gun, CT Racing, & Graydon) I decided the CT was out due to the chrome problem posted in another message. I decided against Graydon since they won't send me the dyno's for their system.
I will post my experience with it once it comes in and I get installed/tested.

No Im not getting rid of my DS I like it to much and I think it is the best quad out. Do you still have yours? I thought I read that you sold it.
I just bought a stage one kit from a friend of mine who sold his.
Bought the whole kit for $500, not bad eh. There is nothing wrong with it I just thought about getting the spark arrested version.
