Default ahhh ebay account got taken over! ($21,009.81 in LISTING FEES!!!!!)

i know there was a thread a couple days ago about the emails being sent around (asking for ebay log ins and passwords...then also credit card and paypal info)

well i got 3 of them, reported them to ebay and junked them.

today i wake up to find.....Holy Teet focker batman! my inbox FULL... all messages from ebay. the first was "your account password has been changed"
then another that said your email has been changed.

then a TON of emails from ebay that said "TKO" (account take over) and LUCKILY they caught on, ended all the auctions, reset my password and changed my email back. (also refunded the 21k in fees thank god!)

there were like 500 auctions...and of course each one was "FEATURED HOME PAGE" which is like 100 bucks or somthing per listing...

this is the first time i am actually happy with somthing through ebay (usually its a Biotch to conctact customer service...if thats even what you want to call it... luckily they can auto detect this thing)
funny part is...my passwords are NO obvious what-so-ever... my ebay name is nitroquad (ok i know kind of corny..made it like back in 2000, it seemed awesome then ) and my passwords had NOTHING to do with my ebay name.... and i dont toss around my passwords so no one would have had access.

well anyway...looks like its cleared up (id still like to know who did it... id love to show their nads the business end of my slug gun)

o by the way if you need a rolex, ANY cell phone 50 xbox's or laptops...IM YOUR MAN!

well numerous ways.... sadly
could be a virus (that detects key strokes...IE my passwords and log ins...)

could be a hacker through cable (i have cable, its basically like a freeway of information, dont think its all that hard to get info off of it, although i do have a firewall, who knows how susceptable to hackers it is though)

could be an email thing (dont really know how... but i guess its possible, although i am very careful with my info, especially passwords and credit card info)

i have noticed this happening a LOT lately. i will go find an item, see what else the person is selling (mostly when looking for DS stuff) and will find 100's of cell phones and bogus stuff....

no i used to till some friends of mine noticed it would auto install the "gator" client...

i have black ice (not the newest firewall...but still decent) plus i am plugged into a router that has its own firewall built in.

i also have norton (dont like norton so its turned off except for a few auto scans occasionally) and then also the newest mcafee

OR...was the real scam, filling your inbox with bogus info from ebay and then getting you to re-act to it. Im sure you re-acted smartly and still didn't give up any real info. But maybe they were hoping you and that you weren't that smart???

A cheap way to get rid of spyware on your PC is Yahoo Anti-Spy - For free, it works pretty darn well.

i reformat too often to worry about spyware...lol

and nope it was for sure legit.... i went to my account history to find out there were 21K dollars worth of fees, then they were all there in reverse (a credit for each individual fee....there was like 32 pages of this lol)

Wow...scary for sure. I'd say you were one very unlucky / Lucky dude. Glad it wasn't what first went through my mind when I read this.
