Default alky question ?

I know a few of you Bomb guys run alky in your DS's. Does anyone have a problem in cold weather running alky at lets say 45-50 deg. ? I know the motor may not get real warm but is that it?

Thanks

Default alky question ?

They run great in colder weather, but they are hard to start. After every ride I run the carb dry, disconnect the fuel line, fill the carb with gas, and run it til it dies to clean out the alky. Then I fill it with gas again and leave it in the carb and use the gas to start it the next time I want to ride.

Thanks for the help. The idea of leaving the gas in the carb for the next start-up is a good idea!

Any reason why? I've heard they can be a little hard to start if your too rich in the pilot circut.

it does start hard. harder than you think. plus unless your jetted to the dot you wont see a diff between race gas and alky. what compression are you running?

Default alky question ?

I'm running 13:1 + . I have ran alky in this machine before and it made a HUGE difference. Why would the colder temps make it have less power than at a higher temp? I don't know so I'm just trying to learn.

You ever heard that saying that you know just enough to be Dangerous. lol Thats me!

Default alky question ?

ok ok i dont know why it is maybe mario will chim in. but i have a buddy i race all the time. all summer i was running alky and would beat him by about 2-3 bikes. we then had a jamboree her in nebraska about 2 months ago and it was cold out about 55 deg. we raced all day and if i had a bad start he would beat me other than that it was even. alky likes hot weather. and race fuel likes cool weather. dont know why?? if im full of it someone chim in.

I can see why it would like the warmer weather because of the cooling effect it has. The results you had were interesting. BTW thanks for sharing them. I would think with it being colder out jetting up might have helped. I dunno

Did your motor even get past 150 deg. ?
