Any suggestions. Tire beads wont stay sealed.

My son has a 05 DS 90. He rolled it and popped the bead on the tire. I went home filled it up with air and it popped right on. Since then both tires just wont seal. I took them off cleaned the beads and the rims up and used 3mm super adhesive. It worked for one ride. I got home and sprayed soap bubbles on the rims and the were leaking again at the beads. Tonight I took them off again cleaned the tire bead and wire wheeled the rims. I thn installed them back on the rims using a thick bead of silicone around the bead. Hopefully this works but if it does not I was wondering if any of you had the same problem and how did you fix it.

Rema makes a product called bead sealer. after you wire wheel the bead area. just brush it around the bead area on the rim. are the beads on the tires damaged at all? and did you use tire soap to seat them on the beads? tire soap (like murphys) will help seal as well. last resort you could put tubes in. but I am not a big fan of that.

No the bead area is like new. No damage. No I did not use tire soap. Never heard of it. I'm going to see if the black silicone works if not I will try and find some of that Rema sealant. As far as tubes go I agree with you. Thanks for your input again. Later, D

My experience has been that if you pop a bead, dirt and/or sand gets in there and causes a problem with sealing. If you've cleaned the rim with water, and still have a problem, then I guess I would recommend the soap. However, when my local tire shop used soap, I ended up with more problems as the soap let the tire spin on the wheels - That's a problem when you race!
If you run ultra-light haulers - they do leak - but its not on the bead. Those tires are so shaved down that they leak just sitting there through the rubber. I can get a whole day of riding in before they need to be pumped back up. I ended up going to Sears and getting an air tank. When I go to the dunes, everybody uses it!

the problem with slime (when used as directed) is it can coat unevenly and throw the tire out of balance. Maybe if you just slime up the beads a little.

I would try the bead sealer. We use it all the time at work and it almost always works. It also helps prevent the tire from spinning on the wheel. We use TECH brand, out of all of them it works best. Only other alternative is to put a tube in it (last resort).
