i'm about 5'10" and lil over 200lbs, and i wouldn't trade the my ds for any(well except maybe a faster and lighter ds650), all i ride is trails, fields and in the winter the river, once you get used to it you don't notice the extra inches, are you looking at a pre 04 style or 04 or newer? the 04's are a little skinnier and lighter so it'd b even easier for the trails, if you look in my picts you can see wat kind of tires i run, i don't run any sissy tires like a holeshot, my least aggressive tire is my excavators, and once i start my new job i plan on gettin a set of 23" gators

Yes the raptor is smaller and has a reverse, I had one for about 4 mouth and what I did not like about it was the low ground clearence at the swing arm and the cluch would smoke and stink everytime I would try to clime a hill. And alot of things broke in that short time. They are made for MX tracks.and sand

OK OK I am not saying that you CANT ride the DS on small trails or tight woods. I am saying that there are narrower, less heavy bikes out there that have reverse that are better suited for that kind of riding!! I am glad that all of you who posted are able to ride the trails and woods on the DS. However, you can't say that there aren't some mods, like reverse, narrower a arms/axles, less weight, etc that you could do that would make it perform better??? if there isn't, then let me hear about it.

Hey yall, Great forum!!! Tomorrow i go pick up my (NEW) 2001 ds from my local dealer. I did alot of searching for the right quad for me. At first i thought it had to be a Utility like praire.... but i rode my neighbors 660r in the bayous and through all sorts of mud and i fell in love with the sport bike. I'm 6'4" tall and weight in at a mind blowing 280lbs, I ride in mud, dirt, hills, pits, and anywhere else my ridding mates 660 and 350r odessey will go. the only thing im worried about is not having reverse. To the folks that ride the terrian i plan to traverse, do you feel im buying the right atv. The dealler let me test ride it to "charge the battery" and this thing is unlike any atv i've ever come across, makes the prarie 650 seem turtle slow and the raptor look like a Kitten. the bike has rim protectors, nerf bars and 22" itc holeshots new. Can i up grade to a vamp style mud tires at around 24 to 25"'s? Thanks for the help and i look forward to being a member of the elite.

Hey yall ty for all the imput, in the mud and water i plan to be going so ungodly fast that i just skip cross it like a rock! Don't laugh but im getting this one from a dealer for 3200, used "NEW" to me only. I know it's alittle high but it's the cheapest in town, has aftermarket front and rear shocks, nerf bars, new tires, battery and front wheel bearings. And i take delivery on it tommorow after work! God willing! So if my baby dosent come this weekend and anyone rides out in Katy Texas I'll be at the trails and jumps behind AMC theater off I-10. I'll be on the only yellow BOMB, making an *** of myself!
