PLEASE HELP ME OUT.

well i have been planning on a trip for a few months now and what do ya know. the ds has let me down again. anyway here is my problem. i tried to start it and it would not fire up. i started it about five days ago. anyway it would not fire up for nothing. i mean it would not even fire. the engine just turned over. so i checked my plugs they were wet. i got fuel. ichecked my filter. its brand new. i checked my fuel line. its clear. i went and bought brand new gas. so then i check to make sure the plugs are getting spark. here is my problem i think. only one plug is getting spark . is that why it does not want to fire. i have a hi-comp piston and i think it may need the extra spark to fire up. so i tore the bike apart for the millionth time and switched the wires to the coils. only one coil is producing spark. so is it the coil or what. and i thought the ds would run on one plug? it was cold here and maybe it just would not fire with one. does anyone have a extra coil laying around that works i am in dire need. i have a feeling if i order one from adealer i wont get it for two or three weeks and i am going home on leave on wed. the ds has preety much wore out its welcome with me at this point. help me out guys. is the coil my problem.

Do you have a manual
I dont but if you do it will tell you which wires to take reading across you are checking for ohms (resistance)
On primary and secondary windings
if not im sure some one else on here will have the readings you need to get.
Im just thinking does the DS have two separate coils Or is it just one feeding two HT leads
i will go to the garage for a look Be back soon

one quick test. take the air filter off and hold hand over mouth of carb while turning over motor, sometimes when it gets cold the enrichener isn't enough to start the motor alone. it's worth a shot.

Two coils on the Bomb.
She'll run just fine on one plug. Minor loss in power.
Spark isn't your issue but, you should fix the problem. Probably just a loose connection?
Have you checked your valve clearances?

like he said two coils , You could have saved me a trip to the garage there . LoL
the spark you are getting is it good and strong also is your battary voltage well up if its a bit weak could cause problems

i have about 15 hour s on a fully new top end done by a very reputable shop. new piston, rings, valves, seals, etc. iam hoping it is not the valves. i just dont get it. i think i got a lemon. the thing has been nothing but trouble to me and i am pretty fed up. plus i have alot of money in this thing.. there are two coils and i dont know what would cause one to go bad? they should both be sparking simaltaneously right.? only one spark????????? man this sucks. i am at aloss of words. i sense a for sale sign in my future. anyone got any encouraging words? tell me i am overreacting.

Bad coil brother......It wouldn't be the module before the coils because they both get the signal from the same wire...I had a bad coil that just took a crap for no reason.....Definately the coil....My bike wouldn't run with one coil and I have factory motor no mods on engine....

Both plugs fire at the same time, only needs one plug to run...however with the higher comp it MAY require both, but if it does, it would at least fire and try to start. I couldn't see it needing both plugs, because being under higher compression, it would fire easier I would think. Kinda like how diesels run. I don't have an extra coil, but I don't need mine, however being in canada, It wouldn't get to you in time anyways. Check your muffler, put your hand over it and see if it is sucking and blowing. If it is sucking hard, do a compression test. Rings may be shot. If you have the tools and time anyways, I'd say do a compression test anyways right off the bat.
If you don't have these tools, and the muffler is sucking, pull a plug, and try holding your thumb or finger over the hole when you crank it. If the rings are gone, it won't blow your finger off the hole.
And if in the end the rings are shot, it's because of having too high of compression for the bike to handle, and you need to give the piston to me I'll make sure it gets discarded accordingly
Hope this helps.
