if you grease your bearing before every ride with synthetic grease you will not have any problems the zirks do work, just like they work on trailer bearings,if i can get 3 years and still counting out of a axle bearing i feel the zirks are the way to go I do not skimp on preventive maintence but theres also a thing called over doing things and i think we should all spend more time riding and less time worring about simple things like a little dirt in our bearing, keep the grease in it keeps the grease out......

maybe you could turn the seals around. that would allow for the purge. thats how king pin seals are setup. the only problem I could see with that. is grease would follow the path of least resistance. and might only purge one side. zerks are acually a good Idea. but, do not rely on then exclusively. and they dont need greased every time. thats what blows seals out. just periodicaly is plenty. then do a remove and clean bi-anual. depending on your riding conditions.

If it works for you, that's great. I'm just saying that it's NOT a replacement for regularly servicing your bearings. You need to get in there every now and then to inspect the bearings for wear and contamination anyway, so you might as well clean the bearings and bearing carrier up really good and repack the bearings.

About trailer bearings, your zerk setup works nothing like the bearing buddies that are installed on alot of trailers right now. Even those are NOT replacements for regular bearing/seal service.

I dropped off the DS at the dealer and they told me that they have had at least 2 of the 05's come in with bearings that did not have enough grease. Those of you that have 05's may want to take a look it would be cheaper in the long run, especially if still under warranty.

hey there crimsonflyer
i have just purchased a baja x only 3 weeks ago .i have 7.5 hrs up on it and the bearings in the diff have fallen out of there carriers all together on investergation by my mechanic he found that there was no grease what so ever in the rear and i spoke to the sales manager of bombardier australia and he said they have never had this problem, so iam glad if thats the right way to say it that iam not the only one to of had problem with the diff on a brand new bike...... its sounds like to me that joe that puts grease in the diffs of the 2005 bike was on holidays and no one replaced him for the week

my very first ds ate the bearings up after about 4-5mths. what happen was the lock nut that holds the axle tite loosened up enough to slop the bearings around and let moisture and dirt in until finally it locked up rear axle with a mangled mess of fried bearings and frozen races. i have had 4 differnet ds's sense with no bearing troubles because i check the lock collar often and service the bearings once a year.
