DS650 Speed?

A400L,
Yes the DS 650 is 7000, but what do you have into your 400? Will it outperform a DS. DOubt it. Does it have 12 inches of suspension. Definitely NO. Come on Jerry, you know the score, You pay for what you get. YOu have a nice machine in the 400, but lets face it, it would take more than double what you paid to put it in the same overall performance league as the DS. Not to mention it would would be tempermental (sp?) not as fast overall, and still as heavy.. Plus, could the frame handle the kind of jumping you can (probably) do on the DS? How about hill climbing? Im sure your 400 does quite well on the hill climbs, but will it handle the extreme hills the DS can without flipping backwards? Youd need an extended swing arm to keep the front end down on some of the hills Ive seen tackled, naturally with an extended swing arm, yet the DS, with a 51" wheel base is the longest quad high performance quad ever produced. So lets reflect. You have a 400 for $4500(roughly) add some motor work to get it up to DS specs $1200 there, major cash to even start on your suspension, and its still gonna need tranny work to handle all that power. So really I would think at $7000 out the door, with NO work needed at all is a pretty good deal.

Oh yea, I talked to a BMW 650 Fundero owner who has moded his motor (the same motor in the DS, and he has approx 75 HP at the rear wheels. Id like to see your 400 get close to that, short of swapping a GSXR motor into your 400...) This is not a personal attack, but when people say "it costs this, it costs that" without tallying up the money they have into their machines, just kinds bugs me..

A400L,
i hope you were not offended by my post. I did not think it was bad, but since it was called into question. I do agree with you though as well, $7000 is quite a bit of money to pluck down on a toy, a toy that may be limited to the dunes and wide trails. Tim ewill tell, it may be too big fo0r alot of riding situations, but hopefully it will push the other players to step up in the horsepower dept. without making such a big machine to wrap around the motor. Like Ranger said, a 400R or a 650 EX would be great, and a Polaris with one the their awesome snowmobile motors would ROCK! Personally, although I love the concept of the DS650, I feel that its proportions may be a bit to big for my size Anyhow, I did not mean any offense, and by the tone of your letter, none was taken.
Have a good one,
