Definitely do a search on the subject of oil. There is a ton of great info on this site about it including some technical stuff. My local Bomb dealer puches the Bomb oil (of course) but their mechanic says any 10w40 is fine. I read the posts here about oil and did some research and decided to go with the amsoil. So far so good.

On that subject what is a good price for amsoil ? does it come in a bulk container? and if so where to get it? Thanks

I am not very knowledgable about the oil subject, but the amsoil website has 10w-40 for $78 a case (12 quarts).

Don't they recommend 15-40?

This may seem like a dumb question, but has anybody ever used John Deere oil in their quads? It's 15-40 non-synthetic; it seems to be that it would work but for some reason there just seems to be something wrong with it. (there better not be anything wrong with it- I'm currently using it in $400,000 worth of farm equipment.)

Actually, diesel engine oil might be a pretty decent oil to run in an ATV.

15-40 diesel oil is a very very good choice for any motorcycle or quad. I've used it on and off for years and can't say anything but good for it. Now, with that said I'm currently using Amsoil 10-40 because of it's terriffic performance in tests against many other motorcycle oils and because I don't want to have to go through the torture of dumping my oil on this bomb every time I come home (I would with conventional oil)..

Bottom line: Just don't use any oil with friction modifers in it and you'll be fine.

i have tried every different type of oil there is. synthetic, blended, motorcycle oil, standard oil ect 5w-15/20w-50/10w-40/ with ice racing i thought synthetic was the hot ticket bla, bla, bla,. befor our last trip to the dunes i was getting my 2 ds's ready and the kids honda's, i need to drive to 3 different places to buy all the special oils each need SCREW IT!!!! i am not going to spend more on oil for the trip than the trip cost it's self. i bought a case of castrol gtx 10w/40 oil and put it in all 4 machines, problems solved it worked great no clutch problems with any of them ( i ran castrol first year ago in my ds's w/no issues) even the busa which even calls for just plain 10w/40 in the manual. my 2 cents
