Just for giggles, pull the seat off and watch the snorkle tubes as you rev the motor.
Watch to see if the tubes are collapsing as you rev it.
I have seen this happen on some Ds's.
If they are, put some hose clamps on them to keep them from flattening out.

well worked on quad all day today. i did the wd 40 trick but nothing happened. i noticed the bike runs ok until it warms up then starts to mess up like i explained earlier. does any one know of any factory glitches on the 2000 model. the bike only has like 20- hrs on it. i almost seem to think that maybe it is not the carb. still open to suggestions. how do you check the timing adjuster? if i cant figure it out i guess it will go back to the yami shop seeing that is the only shop around thanks, john

If your cam chain tensioner is pooched, then when it revs a bit you would hear a slapping sound as the chain has no tension on it guiding it smoothly. As the motor naturally lugs, the chain will whip, and thats not good. To check it, there is a big nut... don't quite remember what size, something like 7/8, but anyways, you screw that off, being careful not to damage the aluminum washer/seal behiend it. Inside the hole is the hydraulid chain tensioner. It should look like a 2 piece plunger sorta deal. If it's stuck shut, I just lightly and carefully tapped mine till it poped free. Sometimes it happens when a grain of something gets in there and it binds.
I doubt thats the problem with the lack of ability to rev though. I'd check the choke like addict suggested. How do the plugs look? I can't see just the addition of a non restricted vent tube causing that much trouble. Get back to us with some more details of what goes down if none of this helps.

I would think it would be carb. For some reason Its not getting enough air. Also my pitcock got clogged once and it wouldnt rev. Just check it. Has it always done this and if not did you add anything at the time it started? Also do you ride with anyone else with a DS? If so try their carb. My first thought was that the snorkel was collapsing(sp) but maybe try a direct mount filter.
