Default 00 ds just bought

hey im new to the forum i just bouth this ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43981 ) im pretty sure i got a good deal.
i'm just wondering what you guys think. im going to grab it this week and bring it down to the shop( my second job is at the local cycle shop)
the owner thinks the carb is gunked up (it just started running like crap 1 day)
any known pitfalls with this combo?
my plan is to get it into the shop drain the gas, change the fluids. rip the carb apart, soak it and reassamble it. and then go from there. while im at it check the valves and compression.
this will be my second ds the other was bone stock but was stolen from me after just 3 months. so i dont know as much about em as id like to.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations, nice looking quad. Sounds to me like your off on the right foot. Try the carb and the valves then let us know if problem still persist. Good Luck.

Congrats on the new toy! \
DemonDS was bidding on that bike and apparently lost to you by $25, he was a little disappointed , Do the obvious stuff, like the carb etc.. hope thats it. I had a failure on my DS one day out of the blue and it took a bit of time to diagnois, it just died while I was ridding and I thought it was the carb etc but then I noticed the spark was kinda erratic, the bike would run some of the time and then just die and leave me stranded at other times. The problem ended up being a faulty trigger coil, when I did the static test on the coil the readings were fine but the problem manifest only under run conditions, so if the carb isn't the issues check your electrical system. Also when you change the oil, be sure to clean out the oil screen in the oil tank and clean out the fuel filter in the gas tank. Good luck getting her going let us know what you find out.

New to the forum and I already dont like him!!! Beats me out on the quad, then is hiking in on my name. Its go time now beotch.

Nahhhhhh just kidden. Kudos to you, I dont know how you managed to sneak in there at the very very last second but you did. I did one more bid and my comp showed 3 more seconds were left but it came up as ended. Looked like a good quad and I hope for you sake that nothing too serious is wrong, which is what I suspected. The other thing I would check that Major didnt mention was check you valve spacing.

Again congrats and welcome to the forums! No hard feelings.

I am happy for you. What extras did the quad have on it. Be sure to check out the carb, that seems to be the only major complaint I have. Have fun, Chiknhawk...

i just talked to the owner of it a few hours ago and the story goes like this
bought it new in 2000 was perfect till late 03 he pulled it down to the bare frame and had it powder coated red along with the hubs. put in a high comp piston and new wrist pin, a stage 2 cam and RWR carb(not sure who makes it) got it running great and bent a lower controll arm so he went with the plus 2 tbr a arms and while he was at it put on longer travel works front shocks. it has holeshot tires on itp rims. it had a graydon exhaust with a stock header. he had the bike running great and went to a track in pa. the second he unloaded it off the trailer it was running like garbage. drove it around for a few minutes to see if it would clear up and it didnt. got fed up and parked it. that was july of 04. it hasnt moved since.
my last ds was amazing, and ive been looking for another for some time. and figured this was too good to pass up. sorry demon i bid a flat 2222.22 with 7 seconds left. your banshee 2fast4u?
