Motorhome or Toy hauler?

No worries mate!
I hear it all the time.
I sell semi trailers, so its a bit different than the usual salesman pitch.
But I used to sell boats too...lol .I never sold a 80 mph or 70mph boat though ( I always told them slower, so I can surprise them on the water).
Lake Havasu, man I am jealous right about now..

I think my major concern with the Class-C is storeage and water/holding tank capacity. My wife and I carry many things with us. The basement of our MH is quite large. I have looked at many of the Class-C and they are usually quite small. In addition, they usually have much smaller water tanks and holding tanks. We know from our boat, that we wanted 100 gallons of water. That lasts us about 3-4 days without dumping. The other thing I like about our MH is that we have a central air conditioner as opposed to the roof units. It seems to work much better.

I used to sell boats part time back in Chicago, you name it, I sold it or tried. When we moved to Havasu, I worked at Magic boats for awhile, crazy business out here. Should be another great spring break weekend here, about 80 degrees. 2 of my neighbors moved from Park City,UT. Got tired of the cold. Sure is easy to get off the subject.
I guess I should say something about RV's. When does everyone replace their tires? Not because of mileage, but heat and time. Mine only have 20k miles but are 7 years old.

Our dunebuggy rides on the trailer and my quad in the truck with my sons threewheeler in the trailer. As my family grows I don't know what I'm going to carry 4 quads and a dunebuggy with, I'm leaning toward a Class A and a large box trailer. The buggy is street legal and can travel for supplies or whatever.

You've brought up a very interesting subject, one that there is no "right" answer for, it all depends on how you're going to use your "toys". I have a 1992 32' motorhome and a 6 x 12 enclosed trailer. I'm just now getting back into atv'ing, but I've used this combo mostly for doing trip and taking the Harley's along. I've often thought about getting rid of the motorhome and trailer, and trading my '02 superduty in on a new f-350 and buying a toyhauler. I have an additional couple of points to add here. Last fall my g/f and I decided to take a long weekend up in the White Mountains of NH, you know, cruise the bikes around and look at all them purdy leaves !!!...anyway, 3 of the 4 days were rainy, needless to say, there's only SO long you can remain occupied in a motorhome, then it's time to throw caution to the wind and break out the bikes and ride in a cold rain ( not a lot of fun). Sure would have been nice to be able to disconnect a truck from a toyhauler and use that to get out for a while. Another thing I've considered, if I'm going to buy a toyhauler, it's going to be a pretty big one and most likely a 5th wheel. I've gotten to like the room and comfort of the motorhome, and more importantly, so has the girlfriend. I would also no longer need my 6 x 12 trailer, might as well sell that too right ? Well, what do I do if the two of us want to take the atv's out somewhere locally for just a day ? Do I really want to drag along a huge toyhauler for a relatively close one day trip ? Just wanted to add my two cents and give you a little more to think about. Dennis

Motorhome or Toy Hauler ...
Here's my opinion. Ive had a travel trailer and loved it. I put my quad in the pickup, and the little 21 foot trailer did great. After that I purchased a 26 foot toy hauler. I could put three quads in it, plus room for all my gear. The only thing I dont like about the toy hauler is that sand gets everywhere. For me it was ok. But if have a wife that is really REALLY particular about keeping it clean, expect at least a few hours of cleaning time after every trip. With the travel trailer, I never was as much clean up. The motorhome option is good if you have a cargo trailer to haul your quads in. But you know, I hate following those darn things up the pass cuz most of them are really underpowered. When they do have the power, they usually are so big they dont fit very well in the parking lots - especially with a cargo trailer.
If I were to do it all over again, I would get a simple cargo trailer and tow it with my truck. That way I'd have a place for shelter in case it rains. Most of the places I ride have showers and toilet facilities so I just let other people clean up the bathrooms for me. The other nice thing there is little or no clean up when you get home - so you can ride longer in the day!
Right now I just have my truck and borrow a buddies flat trailer if we both go out. We are thinking of going in together on a nice cargo trailer and we'd have a place to sleep and keep out of the rain. To me, that would be the best set up.
I know a lot of people have toy haulers, and they are great for a big group of people. When I had it, it seemed everyone wanted to sleep over! That can be a lot of fun, but a heck of a clean up if things get out of hand.

Hey softail250. We do not get into that situation. LOL, we are too hyper!! We always bring along the Jeep. The Jeep and the quad trailer/jetski trailer go on a longer trailer that I pull behind the MH. We have a custom Jetski trailer that holds our two kayaks and bikes also. When we go on vacation, our MH is just a base of operations that we do our exploring from. We often leave in the morning with the Jeep and jetskis/quads in tow and often don't return till after dark.
busmechanic, we often "condo" it, as we call it. We have complete camping equip in the basement when we want to extend our range with the jeep; or when we just want to leave the MH at home. Another type of camping we sometimes do is remove the seats from the mini-van, ut down the inflateable matress and sleep in the back. LOL, we are liable to sleep most anywhere.

Good topic.
We just sold our 34' weekend warrior toy hauler and bought a 37' diesel pusher motorhome. I just got back from a week at dumont today. I have to say i wont be going back to a toyhauler anytime soon. I drove 10 hours(550 miles) and it was like nothing, with our weekend warrior and in the truck a 10 hour drive is a lot. The creature comforts of the motorhome are sooooo much nicer than the toy haulers(then again, our mh is loaded with ice maker, dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc)
There are way more upsides than downsides. I'll be pulling a trailer with my jeep wrangler and our quads so we will have a drive around vehicle and i get 9-10mpg(ours has the 8.3 cummins) It sure is nice going 800-1000 miles between fuel stops whereas with our truck and toyhauler we had to stop every 200-300 miles.
I just bought a new truck and plan to get a camper for it so i will use that for weekend trips and the motorhome for the longer trips.
You can find a used diesel pusher for a great deal if you look. Ours is a 95 Safari Serengeti in perfect shape loaded to the hilt with only 40k miles on it and i got it for $38k

LOL, jetsnow600, sounds like a great price. You definetly need to get a tag vehicle. We hate getting tied down at the MH. The wrangler is a great tag vehicle because we often just connect it with a tow bar and drag it with us when we are doing nothing else. We sometimes take it to the Silver Lake dunes in Mich. We ordered it specially for off roading.

This may not make sense ( I know it doesn't to me) ,but I can drive my 1992 p30 chassis motorhome a heck of a lot longer than my 2002 f250 Lariat. There's definitely something to be said for the comforts of driiving a motorhome for extended periods. I can only imagine how much nicer it would be driving a nice new 40' diesel pusher ( more powerrrrr ). I always figured once I hit the lottery the hot ticket would be a triple slide 40' DP with the highest possible gcvwr, and a nice big enclosed trailer ( painted to match of course) big enough for a nice little SUV of some sort, a couple of quads, and a couple of Harleys. Hell, while I'm at it, let's try to get a 16' fishing boat in there too !!!!!......hmmmm....ok.....now back to reality.
