Best Paddles to run?
#11
Steve,
I think you'll get one or two more rides in before it gets hot and besides you can always head to the beach (Pismo) or heat to a higher altitude like Big Bear......Either way a Southern Californian has no excuse for not riding all year long!......lol

as others have said, there is a choice to be made
I changed from runningthe sand geekos to extreme 22"s with 8 paddles. Boy, was I impressed!!! i don't care if I ever slide around again!!! talk about hookup!!!
Blackhawk rides on competition cut sand skate I's from fullerton sand sports. I have also talked to some other dunatics, and they RAVE about that tire
Sandaholic runs the 20' either haulers or extremes, and always kicks everybodies ***!
I have also heard that the Sand Stars are decent too, I jhust don't know anyone that I ride with that uses them.

I have 22 inch Haulers and I wish i would have bought the 22inch sand stars.....they would be alot nicer cutting around in the bowls...I really don't drag race enough for the haulers......I'll be getting some sand stars before DS Days

I run the competition cut Sand Tires Unlimited and firmly believe they are the best tire out there, period.
I rode for years with a guy with identical bikes and the same size and experience riders. He bought the STUs and I tried everything else, lastly Skat Trak extreme 9 paddle 22's. He could start partway up hills where I would dig in and bury the bike. He could ride on sidehills and general put the quad where it shouldn't be able to go. He also clobbered me on comp hill and although I made my bike faster with gear changes and jetting, he did too.
Did I mention that I spent a couple years tweaking my quad to try to beat him? I couldn't rest until I could make my stock DS run like his. I don't know how much time I spent trying different tuning tricks. When we finally traded tires on a whim I smoked him All that time it was those tires. He seemed to always think it was the rider although the one time we swapped bikes he didn't seem to want to swap again.
On a sideline, we went out to test our bikes and he was barely beating a healthy stage two DS, which I couldn't, (I won't mention names). We went back to the truck and swapped tires and when we went back out I was beating the stage two by a larger margin than my friend had been. That guy wasn't too happy and just looked confused.I ordered a set of those tires the next day and my friend sold his quad.
They take molded tires and hot knife all the extra rubber away which makes them very flexible. + they use their own carcass design instead of a chinese offraod carcass. With extra give and less weight than even tripple buffs they work awesome. Neither of us has gotten a flat either but I wouldn't recomend them for situations where you find alot of rocks or roots. The only downsides are they are the most expensive tires and they don't slide around much. I think mine were $400 with rims.
So many people notice that the DS really improves with various tire or gear swaps that I hope they realize that this is also one of the best bangs for the buck on a DS. You spent alot of money on that quad and you want it to perform it's best right? Would you buy a 4x4 for mudding and not look for the best mud tire? I hope more people start looking at these tires. I am not associated in any way, I just want to spread the word when I find something that really performs.
