Default metallic rattling

This last weekend I noticed a metallic rattling coming from the front of my ds650. It almost sounded like a chain. The rattling went away as the rpms smoothed out. Any suggestions as to what I should check out first?

I have a '05 DS and my bike does the same thing. It has done it since the day that I bought it. Only at low RPM's, and then when the RPM's come up the noise goes away. I have asked numerous people about this and have been told that its a common sound for a DS. I personally think that it is the chain tensioner. Even though it sounds like it is in the front end, I have watched my chain bounce when the noise occured.

i think it's either the cam chain slappin around a little when you lug the motor, mines done it too since new, my buds does it too and only at low bogging rpm's like when the motor's lugged so low it's about to die, like donecrashed said, it seems to be a charictaristic of the motors, when i do occasionally hear it i know it's time for a downshift, thats all, don't worry about it, so if you do hear it..... downshift. over the time ive had my ds the only other thing i think it could be would be is when it's gettin lugged, the motor's yankin on that big 530 chain and it slaps around a little on the chain slider on the swingarm. just keep the motor spun up and you'll never hear it, lates... josh...
